Male enhancement supplement safety: know the red flags
Sexual-enhancement supplements deserve extra scrutiny. FDA maintains an active notification database for products found with undeclared ingredients, while NCCIH says complementary approaches have not been shown safe and effective for treating ED.
Red flags
- Claims that sound like guaranteed drug-like effects.
- “All natural” presented as proof of safety.
- No clear ingredient amounts or seller information.
- Pressure to substitute a supplement for medical evaluation.
- Testimonials used as if they were clinical evidence.
Use authoritative checks
FDA recommends checking its health-fraud product database and speaking with a health professional before trying a new health product. Absence from an FDA notification list is not proof that a product is safe.
